This new 2,600 sf home in the middle of historic Capitol Hill neighborhood in Seattle kept the clients’ wishes for a ‘Northwest’ modern while being sensitive to the scale and materials of adjacent homes.

The open plan of the living area serves this family of four’s lifestyle of being together while in distinct spaces. The amount of filtered sunlight entering the house was particularly important as we wanted it to reinforce spaciousness and a connection to the natural changes that occur through out the day even in a semi urban setting. This is achieved through creating transparency from front to back of the house as well as light from the skylights in the 2 story circulation space in the center of the home.

The materials were selected to reflect a simple, light colored palette with warm tones by using white oak for the flooring, cabinets, and a wood slat screen.
